H.M. Queen Mother’s Birthday

Queen Sirikit of Thailand

H.M. Queen Mother’s Birthday

Her Majesty the Queen Mother’s birthday is held annually on 12 August and is a National Holiday in Thailand. If this date falls on a weekend then the holiday will be observed on the following Monday.

Queen Sirikit’s Birthday

H.M. Queen Mother’s National Holiday marks the birthday of the current queen mother of Thailand, Queen Sirikit. She was born 12 August in 1932.

Sirikit married Rama IX, King Bumibhol on 28 April 1950 after meeting in France in 1946. Their wedding fell a week before the King’s official coronation.

Queen Sirikit is deeply revered across Thailand and around this time many buildings and streets are decorated with lights, flowers and portraits to honour their queen.

Mother’s Day

As well as 12 August commemorating the birthday of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, it is also Mother’s Day in Thailand and celebrated in a similar fashion to the international celebration that falls on the same day.
