H.M. King’s Birthday

King Maha Vajiralongkorn’s Birthday is National Holiday held annually on 28 July. If this date falls on a weekend then the holiday will be observed on the following Monday.

King Maha Vajiralongkorn’s Birthday

King Vajiralongkorn, also known as Rama X began his reign in Thailand on 13 October 2016, following the death of his father King Bhumibol who ruled Thailand for over 70 years. Vajiralongkorn did not accept the throne until 1 December 2016 as a mark of respect and to allow the country to mourn the passing of their beloved king.

Born on 28 July 1952, Vajiralongkorn is the only son of King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit. He is also the oldest Thai monarch to ascend the throne, being 64 years old when he became king.

The King’s Birthday was previously celebrated on 5 December, the birthday of King Bhumibol Adulyadej. 5 December remains a public holiday in Thailand to mark the birthday of King Bhumibol.

In Thailand, on H.M. King’s Birthday most government offices, banks and businesses will be closed. Many shops and restaurants remain open and there is no ban on the sale of alcohol.
